Churchwarden

Churchwarden
2020 bay gelding by Paris Hall (IRE) ex Sparanai (USA) (Leroisdesanimaux (BRZ))
We won the first ever running of the Tramore Derby with the brilliant Zoffany Bay, and had the even-money favourite when the race was abandoned the following year with Chutzpal, who has provided his owners with so much excitement in the past couple of seasons. So, who’s our contender for the 2026 renewal?
Churchwarden.
The dual-purpose five year old recorded a Racing Post Rating of 77 when running a fine race on his second career start at The Curragh in October 2023, after which he was purchased by his previous connections for €54,000.
A winner and twice runner-up over hurdles from eight starts in that sphere for his previous yard, his flat mark is down to 62 and that looks a very workable spot for him.
He’ll be running under both codes for us in 2026, and we’ll likely start him back over hurdles before going to Tramore in July for the Derby!
He will be heading into training with Henry de Bromhead, who is very keen on the idea of targeting the race! Churchwarden will start back in pre-training with Noel Dooly (as do most of the Pimlico team) before heading to Henry in the early spring.

Henry de Bromhead
Having started training at the turn of the millennium, Henry rapidly established himself as a leading force in the National Hunt ranks in Ireland and two decades on, the list of races that have gone the way of the County Waterford-based handler is hugely impressive.
A record-breaking Cheltenham Festival, during which Henry had six winners that included the Champion Hurdle, Champion Chase and Gold Cup, was swiftly followed by a famous 1-2 in the Grand National, providing further evidence of a yard that continues at the very top of its game.
Henry has already trained many winners for us in the Pimlico Racing silks and we are delighted to have four horses in training (Becasse, Chutzpal, Dschingis Dragon and Zurich) with Henry for 2025.
