Collanisi
Collanisi
2020 brown gelding by Kalanisi (IRE) ex Colla Pier (IRE) (Hawk Wing (USA))
Update from Pimlico Racing, April 2024
Collanisi has finished his pre-training with Marcus Foley, who holds him in high regard, and is now in Ben Pauling’s yard at Naunton Downs. Though he is a big, scopey chasing type, he has looked precocious in his work and shown a lot of ability. He will stay at Ben’s for the next month, before a summer break with the aim of starting on the racecourse in a bumper in the early autumn.

Our latest acquisition to join Ben Pauling was purchased at the prestigious Goffs Arkle Sale, a very good-looking son of the Grade 1 sire Kalanisi and out of a black-type mare. He really is an exceptionally good-moving and athletic individual.
This scopey four year old is by a stallion that Ben has done really well with, notably Barters Hill, a €16,000 store purchase whose several Graded wins included the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle, cementing his position as one of the star novice hurdlers in the UK and Ireland.
The dam was precocious enough to place on the flat as a two year old, but came into her own when sent jumping. Runner-up in both Listed and Graded company as a novice hurdler, she went on to reach the frame in Listed/Graded chases as well, so she was a highly talented and versatile performer. She was also very tough, running 67 times in her career.
Her dam was a Grade 2 winner on the flat and produced six winners, so it’s fair to say there is lots of ability on the page!
He has a pedigree that suggests he can make his mark in bumpers and he has looked a precocious and talented individual in his pre-training. Longer-term, he is a really exciting prospect to go jumping, given both his imposing physique and strong, black-type pedigree.

Ben Pauling
Now into his 11th season as a trainer, Ben Pauling has trained over 350 winners to date.
Ben is established as one of the leading young National Hunt trainers in the UK. He has top-level successes and multiple winners at the Cheltenham Festival to his name, including in 2022 with Global Citizen.
His recent move to the hugely impressive, purpose-built yard at Naunton Downs is a real statement of intent, following what was a joint career-best tally of winners in 2021/22, and he has enjoyed a spectacular 2022/23 campaign, with a record-breaking number of winners. We are delighted to have our first syndicate horses in training with Ben in 2023/24, with the exciting young National Hunt prospects Stardhem and our unnamed Kalanisi.
