Unnamed Havana Grey
By one of the hottest sires in Europe and from a family packed with black type, this filly is a really exciting addition to our team.
A third foal, she is out of a half-sister to Hockney, who won at two and was later a very smart, Listed-winning three year old, as well as the multiple Listed-placed filly Singapore Joy. One step back in the pedigree finds Group 1 performers Titus Livius, Briseida and a host of black-type fillies.
Havana Grey, whose stud fee has risen from £6,000 to £55,000 in two years (and was announced as private this week) is an exceptional young sire of two year olds. Unbeaten Group 1 Prix Morny and Middle Park winner Vandeek stole the show last year, and this year’s crop include Group 2-winning filly Arabian Dusk. To cap it off, he has an incredible 8.9% stakes winners to runners.
“I really like this filly. She vetted well, is very nice, athletic and I think she is very good value. I have had a lot of luck from Book 3, every one has been a black type horse and hopefully she can follow suit. She looks an early type and one we can have a lot of fun with” Paddy Twomey
Paddy’s previous three purchases from Book 3 at Tattersalls are as follows:
Beamish (21,000gns) – Won first three starts, including at Listed level
Van Der Decken (55,000gns) – Won Curragh maiden on debut, sold for €1m to Godolphin
Deepone (62,000gns) – Won first two starts at two last year, before winning Group 2
THE PLAN
The filly is currently being broken in at Conor Hoban’s and will start there for the next month, before heading into full training.
Paddy feels she is one that we can crack in with straight away, have ready to start at the beginning of the season and if all goes to plan, target some nice prizes from the late spring onwards.
As with our recent dual-winning two year old Antonin Dvorak, who fetched 220,000gns at Newmarket on Tuesday having been purchased for 16,000gns last year, the plan would be to sell if all was going well and the right offer came along!
PADDY TWOMEY
A breeze-up consignor and pin-hooker prior to starting training, Paddy struck with his first runner back as a trainer, setting the standard for what has been an exceptional career to date.
He has had 114 winners from his 422 runners in Ireland in the last five seasons, at an incredible strike-rate of 27%, 5% higher than his nearest challenger Aidan O’Brien!
He has some of the biggest prizes in the sport in the trophy cabinet, including numerous Group 1 successes, and has excelled with training fillies, who make up 31 of his 36 Listed/Group winners…which certainly bodes well for our new purchase.
