Miakoda
A son of sire sensation Blue Point, this strong, athletic two year old has shown distinct promise on his last two starts and is a potential big improver for new trainer James Owen.
A 100,000gns yearling from the prestigious Book 1 of the Tattersalls Yearling Sale, he is bred to be very smart indeed. By Blue Point, who commands a fee of €60,000 and who broke a series of records with his first crop, the dam did nothing but improve with time, climbing from a rating of 61 to 94 in a year, including placing on multiple occasions at Listed level.
He finished third in a maiden at Newmarket in August, one place in front of a subsequent dual handicap winner, with another impressive first-time-out handicap winner back in sixth. Miakoda looked desperately unlucky not to win at Wolverhampton in September, when a fast-finishing second after missing the break, and the winner that day has gone in again since. His final effort for previous connections came when a close third at Kempton Park.
His previous trainer has had a difficult time of it this year, his two year olds running at just a 7.6% strike-rate. Furthermore, Miakoda’s half-brother improved markedly for being gelded, so we’ve done that and will now give him a few quiet weeks before he returns to training.
“I think he could be very well-handicapped and I like what I saw of him on the gallops before we decided to give him a little break. He’ll be back on the racecourse in January and I think he could run up a sequence in the new year” James Owen
Miakoda has now been gelded and will have a little break before returning to training, with a view to running in January. We’ll get him started on the All-Weather and then keep him going on the turf in the spring. He looks set for a busy and successful year ahead!
