Update from Pimlico Racing, October 2023
North Moon has been on a break for the past month and we’ll just give him a little longer, as the forecast is looking a little better and hopefully he can enjoy a few days in the sun before coming back in! He will start back in pre-training later this month and we will then increase his work in the coming months.
Update from pre-trainer, September 2023
“North Moon has done everything asked of him so far, cantering upsides on the gallops and looking very athletic in his schooling. He is now enjoying a break before returning to training in October”
Final shares now remaining in our tremendously exciting unraced three year old North Moon, to go into training with Champion Trainer Willie Mullins.
North Moon is a son of Spanish Moon, sire of this year’s runaway Arkle winner for Willie Mullins, El Fabiolo. It is a really strong National Hunt pedigree and, as you can see in the video, he is a very athletic, good-moving individual who looks likely to come to hand earlier than most.
His half-brother was certainly precocious – he finished runner-up to the top-class French champion hurdler Theleme in the Grade 1 Prix Cambaceres as a three year old, and was beaten only by Theleme and the brilliant Hermes Baie in Grade 2 company either side of that.
Willie has trained the top two by the sire, the other being Laurina, 18-length winner of the Grade 2 Mares’ novice hurdle at the Festival in 2018 and also a winner at the top level at Fairyhouse.
As well as being a half-brother to the very high-class French hurdler Raffles Face (also a winner at Auteuil over fences on his latest outing), North Moon is out of a novice hurdle winner at Clairefontaine as a three year old, herself a half-sister to three black-type performers.
Everything about the page suggests he could well be an early type and he looks a racy sort, so we’re hopeful we’ll get him started on the racecourse in the spring…though we’ll leave that to Willie!

We are delighted to have our first Pimlico Racing syndicate horses in training with 17-time Irish National Hunt Champion Trainer Willie Mullins for the 2023/24 campaign.
Willie needs no introduction. The winning-most trainer at the Cheltenham Festival, he trained a record 237 winners in the 2022/23 campaign in Ireland, recording over €7 million in prize-money.
The roll of honours at Closutton gets considerably longer by the year and we are excited to have the highly-rated ex-flat performer Ninth Titan and exciting, unraced three year old North Moon in training with Willie this year.
