Erevann ex April Eighteen yearling

We’re delighted to introduce a new addition to Pimlico Racing, a striking colt by Erevann out of April Eighteen, bought at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale and set to go into training with Joseph O’Brien.
This was a horse we were particularly keen to buy. He’s a really strong, scopey colt with plenty of class and he moves extremely well. Both physically and on pedigree, we think he has all the ingredients to develop into a high-class middle-distance prospect.
Most importantly, he looks exactly the type of horse Joseph excels with.
Joseph’s right-hand man, Mick Halford, was equally enthusiastic when he saw him:
“I loved him. He has lots of substance, plenty of bone and a great walk on him. He’s an athlete.”
Mick Halford
That was a big endorsement from Mick and reinforced exactly what we felt when we first saw him at the sales.
BRED FOR THE JOB
He is by first-crop sire Erevann, the high-class son of Dubawi who won at Group level and was placed in both the Group 1 Prix Jacques le Marois and Prix du Moulin. His first yearlings have been very well-received.
His dam, April Eighteen, was a three-time winner and has already produced a black-type performer in France, while the wider family contains numerous Group and Listed performers, including the likes of Persian Majesty and Group 1 winner Hello Youmzain.
It’s a pedigree with quality throughout and, combined with his physical attributes, we think he has all the makings of a proper middle-distance horse.
THE PERFECT HOME
There could hardly be a better time to be sending a horse of this profile to Joseph O’Brien.
Joseph has just won the 2026 St Leger with Highwayman, leading home a 1-2 in the final British Classic of the season. His strength with progressive middle-distance and staying horses is particularly evident this year, with as many as ten of his team being aimed at November’s Melbourne Cup – a race he has already won twice, with Rekindling and Twilight Payment.
For us, this colt really has the stamp of a Joseph O’Brien horse: size, substance, athleticism and the scope to improve as he matures.
THE PLAN
The colt will now be broken in, after which he’ll have a short break before beginning his pre-training programme. We’ll speak to Joseph and his team early in the New Year to decide exactly when they would like him to arrive at Owning Hill.
He’s a horse we’re buying for the future and there’ll be no rush with him. The priority will be giving him every opportunity to develop physically through the spring and summer, with the aim of getting him onto the racecourse in the early autumn.
From there, the hope is that he can develop into the high-class middle-distance three-year-old and older horse that his pedigree and physique suggest he could become.
We think he’s a particularly smart horse to be involved with and we’re delighted to be sending him to Joseph.
