Cottie wins in style in €18,500 handicap hurdle at Downpatrick

 In Pimlico Racing Blog

Cottie won really well at Downpatrick yesterday under a good ride from Mikey O’Connor.  Sent out in front, she barely saw another rival throughout and though briefly challenged at the last by the eventual runner-up, she soon pulled clear up the hill and was drawing away at the line, scoring by nine lengths.

It was a good prize to win (nearly €11,000 to the winner) and a career-best effort from Cottie.  The step up in trip has worked – in fact, she looks like she will stay further still, and the front-running tactics clearly paid off too.  We’ll send some race plans out to her owners this week and hopefully she can build on this and run a big race in her bid to follow up next time.

Many congratulations to all involved in the Cottie syndicate!  She has now won twice, finished second four times and third/fourth three times from her 15 starts since joining us, which is a really strong record.
