Chindwin
Chindwin
2020 bay colt by Saxon Warrior (JPN) ex Cay Dancer (GB) (Danehill Dancer (IRE))
Trainer James Owen has burst on the scene this season, finding considerable improvement from a high percentage of his runners in 2023/24, and we’re delighted to have found what we feel to be a potentially very well-handicapped horse for the upcoming flat season to go into training with him.
Chindwin was a 78,000gns foal purchase and fetched 205,000gns as a yearling. A son of the excellent young sire Saxon Warrior and bred on the same nick as French Listed winner Thornbrook, he showed considerable promise in his first two racecourse starts, in hot maidens at Newbury and Sandown Park.
He wasn’t able to fulfil his potential last year, but it’s fair to say his previous yard was under a cloud in the past couple of seasons, operating at a 5% strike-rate in 2023 and at 3% in 2022.
Still a colt, Chindwin will now be gelded and strongly appeals as the type to run up a sequence off his mark of just 60. We look forward to seeing him in the Pimlico colours this spring and he is outstanding value for anyone looking for a share in a winner this flat season.

James Owen
A multiple Champion Trainer in Arabian Racing and pre-trainer in recent seasons in Newmarket for some of the biggest names in the world of flat racing, James has made a blistering start as a National Hunt trainer in 2023/24.
Based at Green Ridge Stables, on the historic Hamilton Road in Newmarket, James is quickly making a name for himself as a trainer to follow, both over jumps and with his runners on the flat. We are excited to have our first horse with James in 2024, with the well-handicapped four year old, Chindwin.
