Zoffany Bay finishes runner-up in £50,000 Ascot handicap

 In Pimlico Racing Blog

Zoffany Bay, absent since his win in the €100,000 Listed handicap hurdle at Auteuil in 2021, gave us a day to remember at Ascot yesterday when finishing a fine second in the £50,000 class 2 handicap hurdle.

Given a patient ride by Aidan Coleman, Zoffany Bay travelled well but looked to have a stiff task turning for home, with most of the field in front of him.  Still, he quickened smartly to give chase to the eventual winner and kept on strongly to the line.

It was a hugely exciting reappearance run and in picking up £11,960 for second, he has certainly justified the trip over from Ireland!  His main aim for the season is a €100,000 handicap hurdle at the Punchestown Festival, but we’ll look to give him at least one run before then, with another trip to the UK for the Imperial Cup at Sandown Park a possibility.  Many congratulations to all involved!
